When I moved to the neighborhood in the mid 90’s, Armando’s, while not the NY slice of my youth (D’Pizza across the highway from the University of Miami, now gone), was the best slice I’d had since moving to Cambridge in 1986. In recent years, however, I too have found it sadly lacking.

While likely not at level of Mama’s Too (which I was heretofore unaware of), the outpost of Joe’s that has opened in Harvard Square has certainly resulted in a drastic increase in pizza consumption in my household…

And also, I'm fascinated to hear that Armando's was actually good at some point... Especially since Armando himself was there for most of its existence. What do you think started the decline?

That is... quite the comment, especially given what I know of your eating habits! I have a deep seated suspicion of what looks like PE-fueled chain expansion, but will give this a try...

Otto was edible for a hot second there, but I think it was literally a span of weeks.

Love this. Love Mama’s Too too. Happy to know there’s now a Mama’s Too in the Village.

I was worried, but the slice I had there was at least the equal of my most recent from the UWS location.

Love reading your posts! But is chye tau kueh really Hainanese chicken curry? Your picture looks like it's stir-fried radish cake with egg. Thanks for your writing!
